WNLL 2020 Season Update

A message from Warwick North Little League Baseball President, Sean Wiggins:

Dear Warwick North LL Families,

My hope is that this email finds you, your family and loved ones well and safe during these unprecedented times.  Please know that we continue to think about all of our North community.

This week would have marked the half-way point for our 2020 Spring Baseball season.  While this isn’t the season that I had hoped for in my first year as President, it certainly is one that I will never forget.  Prior to the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, WNLL was well on its way to playing baseball.  Our Majors division was drafted, our AAA division was set to draft the night Little League International (LLI) put a halt on all LL activities, and we had the highest number of T-Ball registrations in recent history.  Along with the WNLL Board, I was excited to get the 2020 season underway.

As we approach May 11th, the day when LLI lifts its restriction on baseball activities, we still don’t have any updates from State and City officials as to what we can expect.  We’ve heard from Governor Raimondo that the state will ‘re-open’ in phases, and they will ease the restrictions on gatherings along the way.  We are hopeful that the government will allow Leagues around the state to commence gameplay.  It’s this hope that has us planning for baseball activities to resume this summer.

In order to plan, we’re asking for your help.  Below are links to surveys (1 for players & 1 for coaches) that will help us gauge the level of participation that we can expect should we be allowed to play baseball this summer.  Please take a moment to fill out the survey that applies to you. This information will go a long way in helping us prepare teams, as well as health and safety procedures.

We understand that everyone is in a situation where there are more questions than answers.  The uncertainty that we all feel has prompted a few inquiries regarding refunds.  While our refund policy states that there shall be no refunds after April 15th, we freely admit that this is a special circumstance.  To that end, we have drafted a new refund policy that will be in effect for the 2020 Season.  Should you require a refund due to scheduling, or for health concerns, we understand and hope that you will be back with us in the 2021 season.

We continue to be optimistic and hopeful that the kids will be back playing baseball this season.  However, we will only do so when allowed by state and local authorities.  The health and safety of our players, coaches, and families is our priority in any decision made regarding playing baseball at Warwick North.  Until we hear the crack of the bat at The Pit or at Bend St, we appreciate your patience and understanding, and we wish you and your family safety and wellness.

Best,

Sean Wiggins
